Westmalle Dubbel (7%) is a rich and complex dark Belgian Trappist beer, medium-bodied and soothing with a bitter-chocolaty taste. Best served in a branded chalice glass, with or without the sediment. It pairs well with chocolate and beef. The re-fermentation in the bottle adds depth to the taste, with notes of caramel, malt, and ripe banana. The beer is topped with a dense, cream-colored froth and leaves a lovely lace pattern on the glass. Its long, dry finish is balanced and mild, reflecting the expertise of the Trappist monks who have been brewing it since 1865. Dubbel, or strong double beer, is a fitting name for this renowned beverage that is often simply called "Trappist." The 1926 recipe is still used today, demonstrating the timelessness and excellence of Westmalle Dubbel.
